The Nautilus Lightsculpture and the Power of Form in Nature

Posted by Marcell Marias on

Nautilus LightsculptureThe Nautilus Lightsculpture, with its beautiful curved form, represents unseen powers at work in nature.  The spiral, a logarithmic one, shows the beauty of spirals which adhere to a specific mathematical principle, the Golden Ratio. It's based on a number sequence first popularized in the western world by Leonardo Fibonacci. The Fibonacci series states that each new number is the sum of the two previous numbers, or measurements in the case of our nautilus shell. This curve can be drawn perfectly within a Golden Rectangle as are many other curves that appear in nature.  The Nautilus shell is just the most beautiful in my opinion.

There are so many mysteries in nature, but if look closely and examine them with scientific and mathematical discernment, we may discover illuminating answers. Sheding the light on this one spiral form with Nautilus Lightsculpture is just the beginning of a series utilizing the Golden Ratio for design. I figured I just start with Mother Nature's perfect spiral first.
